‘Muscle cars’ have been at the heart of the drag racing scene since the start. In the UK the fastest growing class is the Nostalgia Superstockers. Rules are simple, they have to be pre 1980 American V8s running on conventional suspension with no power adders like turbos or nitrous injection, exhausts can be removed and slick tyres used. A mix of all out race cars and road legal Hot Rods, over seventy regularly enter for a sixty four car ladder. To make the racing close and exciting this is a ‘bracket class’, in other words say what your elapse time (et or dial in) over the quarter mile will be and don’t go quicker (break out). The slower car gets a handicap start but the winner must cross the line first and not break out. If both go too quick the nearest to their dial in wins.
Let’s have a look at the variety of vehicles that make up this great class.
