Berlin…Charlottenburg & Tierpark re-visited

Mid-month we spent a few days in the German capital visiting our daughter.  Apart from one showery day we had glorious weather.  On the iffy day we took a trip out to a well known Scandinavian furniture store to help furnish the Lemmings new flat and empty my wallet.  The good days were spent re-visiting a couple of our favourite places, the Charlottenburg Palace and Tierpark Berlin Europe’s largest zoological garden.

We visited some lovely cafes and restaurants.  Made full use of the extensive transport network (9 Euros for a 24 hour unlimited ticket) and still clocked up 15,000 steps a day!  A lovely City, friendly and welcoming always a joy to visit

  1. My wife and I are both descendants of German families that came to Brazil in the early 1900s. She has a strong desire to visit Germany in what I call “The Call of the Motherland”. Maybe one day we will have the opportunity to go.

  2. Brian, as Rubens Junior mentioned, I too have my entire maternal line of ancestors from the Chambons-Mentoulles of Cluson Valley, Italy and Lyon, France, then during the severe persecutions by Pope Lucias III and our family clan of Waldensians escaping the Piedmont Easter Massacre in 1655, they fled to Charlottenberg, Germany outside of Koblenz under the protection of Countess Elisabeth Charlotte Melander von Holzapfel-Schaumburg of Prussia. The hills and castles still exist there today as the town of Holzappel, Germany. So… I have a special kindred draw and connection there in Holzappel and Charlottenburg. 😉

Once again, gorgeous pictures, especially the Palace of Sophie-Charlotte. ❤️

    1. Wow Mr D that is some family history! Of course the Charlottenburg area of Berlin is rather different to your kin’s old stomping ground near Koblenz, no mountains for a start!
Thanks for dropping by, keep well.

      1. Hah! 😄 Yes, I imagine it is different. 😉 But your stories there just stir up a deep soulful excitement so I just wanted to share that perhaps, just maybe you ‘touched’ my kinfolk! In appropriate ways of course! 🤭

  3. The country of my ancestors. One of these days we will get over there and see what it is all about. Until then I will have to rely on your visits B. ha. Red Squirrels are my second favorite (second only to our adorable white ones). Cute pic of the Red Panda by the way.

    1. As I said in another comment above get over while you can still enjoy it. Europe’s got a lot to see and we have history that goes back more than 200 years! Think of all those new birds you will see, hmmm tempting.
The Red Squirrels are brilliant. Sadly in most of the UK they are extinct because some nob head thought it a good idea to introduce the North American Grey, well that didn’t turn out so good, pox ridden tree rats!
