Duke of Burgundy @ Totternhoe

16th May 2017.  One of my targets for this year was to see the Duke of Burgundy butterfly, It is a name that has fascinated me since I was a child.  With a lot of research I set out to my nearest site Totternhoe old quarry in Bedfordshire 130 miles away!

It was a great success with sightings of six individuals, not all pristine, but they are renowned fighters.  A bonus was two early small blues, another species new to me.

For more images I have put together a portfolio on my HOME page.
