17th April 2017. After failing to get any images of orange tips last week I was delighted when this beauty settled in my garden for over 15 mins, allowing me to get as many shots as I wanted.
These are gorgeous spring butterflies. In France they are called rising sun whilst the old English name is lady of the woods, much nicer than orange tip.
Despite temperatures being half of what they reached last week and a northerly wind, it’s nice to see activity in the sheltered garden. Holly blues are still around, also speckled wood and comma.
Lots of bees in the garden also. The one in the image above has the quaint name of hairy-footed flower bee.
