March 13th 2017. With some lovely warm spring sunshine, butterflies have been coming out of hibernation, 4 species seen in the garden today. The comma (above) sunning itself on a foxglove leaf was very active.
One of my favorites is the brimstone, this one flew up and down the flower bed before having a quick refuel on a primula. At the weekend we saw one go to roost under a leaf of a hebe, once you took your eyes from it it was very hard to re-find.
Adding a drop of colour both peacock and small tortoiseshell spent a few minutes warming up.
